Simpson Air and Nahanni Mountain Lodge
Simpson Air is the oldest established flying business still active in the Mackenzie Valley. Offering aircraft charter with floats or wheels into the Nahanni National Park and the surrounding communities throughout the Deh Cho region of the Northwest Territories.
Ted Grant, President and Chief Pilot, was stationed in Fort Simpson with the RCMP in 1976 and had the opportunity to fly throughout the Nahanni with Dick Turner, author of "Nahanni" and "Wings of the North". In 1981 Ted purchased Simpson Air and has flown aircrafts such as the Cessna 185, 206, Pilatus Turbo Porter, Norseman, and Twin Otters in the Nahanni Region. Ted and long time friend Pete Cowie, who has been flying in the area since 1964, are two of the most experienced pilots still flying into the Nahanni.
In 1985 Ted purchased the log cabins at Little Doctor Lake from
Gus and Mary Kraus, long time residents of the Nahanni who trapped
and prospected in the region. These same cabins have now become
the Nahanni Mountain Lodge, a naturalist lodge for those who
desire a private lakeside haven.
